Princess Animal–the Origins Story

January 12th, 2011

When We were young–hundreds and hundreds of years ago–back in the 70′s, the comic books we read often had special issues that were origin stories. These detailed how the superhero had come upon (or often was “cursed with”) their awesome superpowers.

So here today, We have decided to tell you how Princess Animal came to be and bless you all with Her Royal Presence.

One day, long ago in the mid-to-late 70′s, two extraordinarily powerful creatures met: Animal from the Muppets, and Man-Bat from DC Comics. There was a veritable explosion of their uncontrollable, unintelligent, inhuman violent man-creature love. And from this union sprang the not-fully-formed Princess Animal, straight from Animal’s head, as Athena was borne from the head of Zeus.

One parent was blessed with mad musical skillz. The other, a strange sonic scream and supernatural hearing. They recognized a shared sartorial taste, both preferring shredded pants and shirts. The result? A bouncing baby monkey. Princess Animal, upon the cusp of her maturation, developed an uncanny sense of craft. Armed only with her needles, her uncontained rage and the most beautiful monkey face in the world, the Princess is taking over, starting with San Francisco. She claims it’s for good, to arm the populace with skillz for the coming Craftopolypse. But are Her real intentions for good…or EEEVILL?

Treeleg

January 12th, 2011

So, one of Our readers, who shall remain nameless–let’s just refer to her as “michelle”–no reason, just picked that name out of Our Royal Crown–believes that We should be blogging every day and include lots of pictures. Obviously, this is an insane request. Every day? If We let you hear from every day, why, the mystery would be gone. “Hi, honey, how was Your Royal Day?” Does one follow the every day foibles and whims of the Princess as they do another royal family that’s been stealing Our thunder lately due to some sort of impending nuptuals?

For now, We speak when the Royal whim strikes. But this person, “Michelle,” has guilted us into posting something this very day. With pictures. So there.

Yesterday We received our copy of Vogue Knitting. Now as you know, We believe that Vogue occasionally caters to the Knutty Knitter set. But lately, they’ve been on their game. And we love love love the crazy tree socks that are in the winter issue, pictured above, or below, or wherever this crazy WordPress software chooses to put it. I’m actually thinking these could be made far more creepy and terrifying by making base of the socks in blue and the tree in a dark blue/brown mix. May or may not omit some of the embroidery, as We believe that will take approximately 100 years.

Currently We are not carrying Vogue Knitting in the shop. Mags don’t seem to sell that well. But should we? Perhaps we should. Would you buy it? It is a very cheap way to get a lot of patterns, at least one of which We would make. Actually, We even adore the cover hat.

Maybe our reader, “Michelle,” could see her way to commenting if she supposedly cares so much. So there!

Vampire Panda & the First Ever Princess Animal Project of the Month

January 4th, 2011

Transition-Gloves-1Loyal Subjects:

We have so, so much to speak of. First, we just received the new Knit Wit book by Katie Boyette, which We love. It contains awesome toys with a deliciously evil twist. We have included a pic of the excellent Vampire Panda. Cute, cuddly creatures–which have developed a taste for human flesh. But then, who hasn’t? The Vampire Panda is much like the Chupacrabra. Seem only at a distance by rural farmers who have been nipping a bit too much at the homemade corn whisky. Those who see the V.P. up close? Let’s just say they no longer have eyes to see with, or mouths to talk with. Or even hands to sign with.

Check out the rest of Katie’s fantastical blog, which includes knitted guitars, which are far safer than the ones made of wood. After all, they can cause splinters. Which might bleed, and attract a V.P.:

Now, onto Our Other Very Important Topic. The NEW! HOT! TASTY! Princess Animal Project of the Month. We can only hope you stayed with us during the Panda Escapades, because we’re pleased to announce that the awesome Transition Gloves from Shibui comprises the P.o.t.M. Not only will you be the coolest person on your block for having them, but they’re crazy fun to make and a great introduction to color work. Advanced, you say? Why, slightly, but not too bad, and not for you. You, young knitting jedi, are ready. So ready that We’ll give you 10% off both the pattern and any Shibui color combo should you decide to take it on. That’s how much confidence We have in you. Howsomever, you must mention the secret two words: Frances’ Unmentionables. That will get you the discount.

What are your votes for next month’s P.o.t.M. And oh, how I wish I could string that out to be P.o.t.t.y.M.o.u.t.h.vampiricpanda
